The celebration featured sensitization activities, interactive discussions, and a cake-cutting ceremony to symbolize the hospital’s continued dedication to excellence in spinal care and rehabilitation. The hospital’s multidisciplinary team highlighted the significance of investing in spinal health through proper posture, regular physical activity, and early medical intervention for spinal conditions — key steps toward living a healthy, active life. NSIRH extended heartfelt appreciation to its valued partners and guests for their courtesy visit and continued collaboration:Physiotherapy Council of Kenya, Kenya Society of Physiotherapists, Arckayd Limited, Motivation Charitable Trust, Ujuzi Fursa Africa and Pathway International. Their unwavering support plays a vital role in strengthening NSIRH’s mission to provide specialized spinal injury care, comprehensive rehabilitation, and public awareness initiatives across the country. The National Spinal Injury Referral Hospital invites members of the general public to a screening camp for spine conditions on: 22nd & 26th September 2025 from 8:00 am – 3:00 pm This camp is open to patients with spine deformities such as scoliosis and kyphosis that may require surgical treatment. Please call 0722626641 to book your slot by 19th September 2025. Remember to carry your previous X-rays, MRIs, CT Scans, and any other relevant medical documents. On 12 September 2025, the National Spinal Injury Referral Hospital, we proudly celebrated World Physiotherapy Week with a free physiotherapy medical camp. The event was officially opened and graciously attended by the Head of Division of Integrated Health Services, Dr. Andrew Muriithi, along with other esteemed hospital staff. A heartfelt thank you to our distinguished guests from Flamingo Orthopedics, who showcased their display on physiotherapy items. Special thanks to Computech Healthcare for providing the CME session. We also appreciate Sai Pharmaceuticals for the delightful World Physiotherapy Cake, and Phillips Therapeutics for sponsoring our lunch. Our event received media coverage from the Physiotherapy Council of Kenya and the President of the Kenya Society of Physiotherapists, Henry Opondo, who highlighted the critical role of physiotherapy and physical activity in healthy ageing with a focused look at preventing frailty and falls— emphasizing the power of movement to keep lives strong and independent. On 11 September 2025, the National Spinal Injury Referral Hospital took a significant leap forward in diagnostic capabilities. We are immensely grateful to have received a state-of-the-art AU240 Automatic Biochemistry Analyzer and a URIT-5160 Auto Hematology Analyzer, generously provided by Sunview Medipro. This crucial donation is a part of the National Equipment Service Program (NESP), an initiative dedicated to modernizing healthcare infrastructure across the country. These advanced analyzers will allow us to deliver faster, more accurate test results, leading to better and quicker treatment decisions for our patients. This investment in our facility is an investment in the health of our nation.
On 7th August 2025, the National Spinal Injury Referral Hospital (NSIRH) was honored to receive a new state-of-the-art CT scan machine under the National Equipment Service Project, launched by H.E. President William Ruto. The installation of this advanced diagnostic equipment marks a significant milestone for the hospital and the communities we serve. The new CT scan will greatly enhance diagnostic accuracy, improve treatment planning, and expand access to cutting-edge healthcare technologies for patients across Kenya and beyond.At NSIRH, we remain dedicated to delivering quality, accessible, and timely healthcare for all, ensuring that every patient receives world-class services.
On July 11, 2025, the National Spinal Injury Referral Hospital (NSIRH) was honored to host a distinguished delegation from the Director General for Health’s Office. The visiting team included: Dr. Rachel Nyamai – National Referral Division Dr. Saleh Bardad – Head of Division of Clinical Services Beatrice R. Rotich – ADCS Sylvia Ayiiso – Head of Division, Curative and Nursing. The purpose of the visit was to assess the quality of patient care, with a focus on bed capacity and occupancy at NSIRH. The delegation was warmly received by NSIRH Director Medical Services, Dr. Kibet P. Shikuku, together with the hospital’s management team. In his remarks, Dr. Kibet Shikuku emphasized the hospital’s unique and vital role in specialized spine care: “We are serving Kenya, East and Central Africa, and we don’t have such a comprehensive facility in the region. We receive calls and patients from across the region. We have a masterplan for 350 beds and have registered for ISO 7101:2023 and ISO 15189:2022.” The team later embarked on a comprehensive guided tour of the facility. This visit reaffirms NSIRH’s commitment to excellence and continuous improvement in delivering specialized spinal injury care.
June 24, 2025, marked a significant milestone as the Kenya Haemophilia Association officially launched the National Spinal Injury Referral Hospital as a Haemophilia Treatment Centre! As part of this crucial launch, we're incredibly grateful to have received a generous donation of a refrigerator and vital clotting factor from the Association. This support is instrumental in enhancing our capacity to provide specialized, life-changing care for haemophilia patients. Thank you, Kenya Haemophilia Association!
On August 9, 2024 , the National Spinal Injury Referral Hospital (NSIRH) received a donation of a flat-screen television, which will assist in entertaining our patients as they undergo treatment, and the book (Cradle of Mankind) from the Royal Thai Embassy. The Royal Thai Ambassador, H.E. Morakot Janemathukorn, presented the donations to NSIRH CEO, Dr. Kibet Shikuku, who received them with much gratitude. Thank you, Royal Thai Embassy, for the generous donation.
On March 20,2024, Health CS Susan Nakhumicha conducts a comprehensive Universal Health Coverage (UHC) spot check of a National Spinal Injury Referral Hospital to ensure service availability in our facilities, reaffirming the government commitment to specialized healthcare.
The items, as the hospital Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Kibet P. Shikuku revealed, range from heavy duty suction machines for use in surgery, ripple mattresses for high-risk patients, wound Vacuum-assisted closure (VAC) machines, a Cervical Spine Mayfield Holder and wheelchairs for both quadriplegic and paraplegic patients. “The equipment will enhance the hospital’s ability to cope with the increasing number of spinal injury patients,” Dr. Kibet said during the handing over of the equipment by Kenya Reinsurance Corporation Managing Director, Dr. Hillary Maina Wachinga through the Company’s Niko Fiti campaign.
